The Programme
Established in the year 1981, the Department offers a 4-year B.E. and a 2-Year M.E. Post Graduate Programme in:
- Mechanical Engineering (1981) [B.E], with an annual intake of 120 students.
- Advanced Design & Manufacturing [M.E], with an annual intake of 18 students

Infrastructure
The Infrastructural resources of the Department include four main laboratories: (a) Applied Thermodynamics, (b) Thermal Engineering, (c) CAD/CAM and (d) Metallurgy Lab. The supporting Lab facilities consists of: (a) Welding, (b) Metal Forming, (c) Machine Tools, (d) Metal Casting and (e) Metrology & Instrumentation. A central workshop with the facilities of Carpentry, House Wiring, Fitting, Smithy, and Welding imparts necessary skills to the students.
Distinctions
The students of the Department have consistently bagged Gold Medals and University Ranks among the affiliates colleges and won several prizes in design and other contests at various levels. The senior faculty in the Department have made a significant contribution through guidance in research at the Master's and Doctoral levels. The faculty of the Department have themselves been actively engaged in research publication and dissemination of knowledge through extension lectures at various prestigious institutions.
Industry-Institution Interaction
In addition to the interaction by way of students' visit to the industry, the department has established linkages with various renowned organisations for faculty visits, student training, student internship, and consultancy services. The organisations include Mahindra & Mahindra, Castrol India, Rane Engine Valves, DRDL, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Krittika Software, APSRTC, Central Institute of Tool Design and Midhani.
As part of the Industry-Institution Interaction, the Department has conducted training programmes/workshops for various reputed organisations like Rane Engine Valves, BHEL, SDRC, and Government Tool Room.
